This holiday season, we had the opportunity to catch up with friend and illustrator, Jill Labieniec, to create a couple of custom prints for our leggings! Jill and Sarah went to college together in Sarasota, Florida, at Ringling College of Art & Design. Following graduation, they stayed in touch over social media and their friendship grew as they were able to support each other from afar!
Jill now lives and works in Seattle, creating custom illustrations for books and greeting cards, and spending quality time with her St. Bernard Daisy, chubby cat BearBear, and her brand new husband (she’s a newlywed!)
Jill’s sense of fun & whimsy is so evident in her work, along with a beautiful aesthetic, that we were dying to collaborate with her! We think she’s an incredible talent, and you can follow along on her adventures or see more of her work on Instagram here.
We asked Jill to tell us a little bit more about herself below:
Bear & Bunny Co. (BBC): How long have you been into illustration?
Jill Labieniec (JL): Since I was a kid. It’s always been such a magical way to escape into imaginary worlds.
BBC: When did you know you wanted to do this for a living?
JL: I’m not sure I ever really thought I would be designing books and greeting cards for a living. It just kind of happened. I have always been into making things and that has taken me down some pretty different and fun roads. I am excited to see what comes next!
BBC: Have you ever design for fabric or clothing before?
JL: I would sew and draw a lot as a kid, but this is the first time those two things have come together! It’s a bit of a learning curve, which I love, and I can’t wait to do more.
BBC: What inspired each of these patterns:
JL: The excitement of seeing all the glittering packages under the tree. The hope of a snow filled world outside your window.
BBC: Do you have any favorite holiday traditions?
JL: Getting to open one present up on Christmas Eve. I am a bit of a Christmas rascal, poking and sizing up every present under the tree, so I get to open one up early ☺
BBC: What’s your favorite holiday gift you’ve ever received?
JL: I ask for a puppy every single year. It hasn’t happened yet, but when it does, that will be my favorite!
